Chief Legal Officer
Barbara brings more than 18 years of legal experience to PSS, including 15 years handling a wide range of intellectual property legal matters and five years exclusively in the telecommunications industry. Barbara’s professionalism and sense of urgency help ensure that customers experience smooth and coherent business transactions with PSS.
Previously, Barbara was Strategic Alliances and Transactions Counsel for Nortel Networks, where she was involved in the “Rembrandt in the Attic” initiative to license the company’s intellectual property. Prior to that, she was General Counsel for Intellectual Property Law at Lockheed Martin Corp., where she managed the intellectual property group for the rocket and satellite businesses. Barbara also worked at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, where she provided legal support for licensing government inventions to the private sector.
Barbara mastered sports on both land and water. She is an avid sailor, and although she no longer sails competitively she still enjoys a day at the lake . She also competed on snow skiing, spending many fun-filled hours on the slopes in New Mexico, Colorado, and any place where the snow is good. She passed on her love of sailing and skiing to her children. Both her son and daughter are accomplished skiers, and her son now sails competitively at the collegiate level.
These days, Barbara’s life revolves around horses, as her daughter is a dedicated equestrian who competes on a national level. If you want to hear a very interesting bit of history, ask Barbara about her New Zealand ancestry and their claim to fame, as well as her Australian connections.
Barbara holds a BA in Chemistry from the University of New Mexico, a MS from the University of Texas, and a Juris Doctorate from St. Mary’s University of San Antonio, Texas. Bar Admissions include State of California, State of Texas and United States Patent and Trademark Office.
